My Favorite Web Comics

So, a question was posted asking what comics I follow. Well, I apparently like more than I thought I did! Didn't fully realize how many until I went to my app to look them over ahead of this post. While I might check some out from time to time and have others marked to go back and look at some time in the future, there are EIGHT that I actively follow. Granted, a couple of those don't post consistently, so you only see their new stuff once every month or two (or longer). That's not a gripe, just information for you. I don't know how so many folks are so consistent with their weekly posts! Writing a story is hard, drawing is hard, writing and drawing a story at the same time just seems like a herculean effort. One that I'm glad a lot of folks take on!

I've listed the eight I follow below with some extra love for my favorites.

Lore Olympus

This one is my favorite, and got me into the whole web comic thing. I love the story, love the art, and love that those Greek myths I learned about as a kid are still popular today. The story is based on the relationship between Hades and Persephone with a huge heaping of humor, drama, and emotion thrown in.

Author provided description: Witness what the gods do…after dark. The friendships and the lies, the gossip and the wild parties, and of course, forbidden love. Because it turns out, the gods aren’t so different from us after all, especially when it comes to their problems. Stylish and immersive, this is one of mythology’s greatest stories -- The Taking of Persephone -- as it’s never been told before.

Cursed Princess Club

This one caught me off-guard, because you never really know what to expect in each episode and I love it! It does a great job of touching on issues with how we see ourselves vs. how others see us (from varying perspectives - those we love to strangers) while also mixing in enough humor and somewhat ridiculous situations to really make it entertaining.

Author provided description: Meet Gwendolyn – living proof that princesses don’t always have it all. See, although she lives in a castle and her father is the King, Gwendolyn isn’t like a movie princess, or even a fairly-tale princess. She’s got a big heart, but isn’t particularly attractive and doesn’t have a Disney-quality singing voice. But one night, she accidentally stumbles upon the twisted world of the Cursed Princess Club, and her life will never be the same. Hexed and cast out, the ladies of the club are just the people Gwendolyn needs to show her that just because she doesn’t “fit the mold” does not mean she’s any less of a princess.

The Kiss Bet

This one is pretty self-explanatory, haha. There is a bet between our heroine and her best friend over her first kiss. There's drama around it and the events that unfold as a result. The characters are all in high school, and it's just cute and sweet with some humor definitely thrown in. There's also some definite will they won't they.

Author provided description: It’s senior year and Sara Lin just turned 18. She’s got great friends, a cool Dad (or so he thinks) and a whole lot ahead of her. The last thing she needs is to worry about having her first kiss. But that’s all about to change because her good pal Patrick just challenged her to a bet that will either lead to love, heartbreak or embarrassment…or maybe all three.

The First Night With the Duke

This one has some magic to it, literally, but in a weird way. The heroine loves romances as an escape form her daily life. And one day, without understanding why, she finds herself as a character in her favorite one. Not the main character, but a supporting character. And yet, her presence in the story changes it from the moment her character takes shape. It's got a lot of moments where you want to strangle the heroine, moments you feel for her, and just a story that keeps you guessing. And yes, there's humor, in case you haven't picked up on me looking for that in my stories already.

Author provided description: A handsome, selfish noble falls for a beautiful, kind commoner -- at least, that’s how the story’s supposed to go. When an average college student wakes up as Ripley, an extra in her favorite romance novel, she resolves to enjoy the luxuries of her character’s status while watching the novel's plot unfold from the sidelines. However, her plans are soon derailed when she finds herself in bed with no other than Duke Zeronis, the novel’s hero! Dodging the villainess’ schemes, the Duke’s advances, and her own feelings, can Ripley keep the story on track and survive beyond the first night?

The Remarried Empress

Yet another one that is self-explanatory by the title. But hey, the title worked. It captured my interest, and I've enjoyed the series ever since. It's beautifully drawn and the characters are well done. You really like some and you really hate others. The story is interesting and there are moments when you just can't believe the thought processes utilized by some of the characters and you often find yourself wondering "in what universe, fictitious or otherwise, would that ever be a good idea?!" Definitely has some humor, intrigue, a bit of magic, a lot of assumptions that don't get conveyed to others, and some politics throw in for good measure.

Author provided description: Navier Ellie Trovi was an empress perfect in every way -- intelligent, courageous, and socially adept. She was kind to her subjects and devoted to her husband. Navier was perfectly content to live the rest of her days as the wise empress of the Eastern Empire. That is, until her husband brought home a mistress and demanded a divorce. “I accept this divorce… And I request an approval of my remarriage.” In a shocking twist, Navier remarries another emperor and retains her title and childhood dream as empress. But just how did everything unfold?

He Thinks I'm Cute

This one is a new one for me. It's super short and relatively minimalistic in terms of its art. I appreciate the simplicity, but it's definitely not a deep comic or one you can't wait to read. But it's cute and entertaining, so I keep going back.

Author provided description: Hanna Cruz accidentally saw Star Baseball Player Kai Chen in the Library with a woman and they seemed to be affectionate with each other. She thought Kai's girlfriend was with him but she found out that it was the girlfriend of Kai's teammate and friend, Lucas. What will she do with what she finds out?

Lord Have Mercy

This one is really controversial, haha. It deals with forbidden love between a priest and one of the sisters during what looks to be the 1960s. Quite the scandal if they get caught! This is one of the ones that doesn't post as regularly, so it's hard to keep up on it, but it's worth the read. Entertaining while dealing with a topic that is off limits. I like the art, too, because it's not overly complicated and works with a limited color pallet.

Author provided description: Lord Have Mercy is a graphic novel set in the world of 1960's small town Catholic social circles. Follow the flowering relationship between Father Luke and Sister Esther as they struggle between their love for each other and their faith. Watch a forbidden romantic story unfold in an art style partially influenced by retro mid-century modern styles. Written and illustrated by Savie Smith and co-written by Brogan Chattin. Updates Wednesdays.

Pursuing Rejection

This one is the hardest to follow in terms of sporadic postings and not a whole lot in each episode. It is centered around a modeling agency so you get a mix of characters. The heroine is a bit standoffish from everyone else and is treated like an outsider. She's got some secrets that she wants to keep close, but there's a guy model who has noticed her and likes her for being different. So it's going to be interesting to see if she'll ever give him the time of day or what will transpire between them.

Author provided description: Cas has had a decent life, and now that somebody's switched her career from a stage manager to a model, it seems the world has had it in for her. History repeats and the past comes back to play in the present. Not to mention this guy won't leave her alone. Dude, she's obviously not interested... What? He's hot? Well then, let's see what happens! Stay tuned for this dramatic romantic comedy updating monthly usually on Wednesday \( ಥ ᴗ ಥ )/

Hope you find at least one you might like, as well. They're all on Webtoon. And if you don't like these there are a ton more ranging across every topic you can think of - go explore!
